ABOUT

Wood Wizard Decoys is owned and operated by James Romig of Middleburg, Pennsylvania.

Jim is an avid outdoorsman and enjoys spending time with his family and friends in all outdoor activities.  One of his passions is duck hunting, spending many days each season hunting with great guys like Shawn, Dwayne, and Jim.  He always felt that with his background in woodworking, someday he would like to try his hand at making decoys.

In February 2001, everything changed for Jim.  He was introduced to Caz Russell of Northumberland who is a talented local carver.  Caz invited Jim to come to his shop and carve... that was the spark of the fire!  Caz offered instruction on the basics of carving decoys and it wasn't long before Jim completed his first gunning decoy, a magnum Bufflehead drake.  Jim was introduced to other local carvers who also offered helpful information.

Jim entered his fist decoy competition in October 2001, the Chesapeake Challenge in Salisbury, Maryland where he won an Honorable Mention Ribbon for a drake Ring-necked duck.

From then on, he has entered contests from Maryland to California.  Achievements  so far, include...

Jim strives to create decoys of the highest quality possible, using the best materials available.  His gunners are tan cork or cedar, and painted with Goldens Acrylic Paint.  Antique style decoys are pine or cedar and fashioned to look like a cherished heirloom.  Jim also creates some of the finest scrimshawed powder horns you can find!  Be sure to check out the galleries of pictures and contact Jim to order your decoys and other works of art!
